Social Media
| Platform | Limit |
|---|---|
| X (Twitter) post | 280 characters |
| Instagram caption | 2,200 characters (only ~125 shown before "more") |
| Instagram bio | 150 characters |

| LinkedIn post | 3,000 characters |
| TikTok caption | 2,200 characters |
SEO & Web
| Element | Recommended limit |
|---|---|
| Page title (meta title) | ~55-60 characters before truncation in Google |
| Meta description | ~155-160 characters |
| URL slug | No hard limit, but shorter is generally better for readability |
Why "Shown" and "Allowed" Are Different Numbers
Notice that several platforms allow far more characters than they actually display before truncating. Facebook technically allows over 60,000 characters, but anything past roughly 477 gets cut off with a "See more" link in most feed views. The lesson: for anything meant to be read at a glance, aim well under the platform's true limit, not right up against it.
Counting as You Write
Rather than writing first and counting after, it's faster to see the count update live as you type โ especially for platforms with tight limits like X or Instagram bios, where every character counts.
Try it now โ nothing is ever uploaded.
